Greenland just lost 11 billion tons of ice melted in one day because of this shocking weather event known as ‘summer’.
CBS News‘s resident climate expert Ted Scambos [loving the poetry of that first syllable in his surname!] thinks this is worrying and unusual; so does the Washington Post, which declares it “one of its greatest melting events ever recorded”; so too does renowned Canadian alarmist Bill McKibben.
As Greenland's heat wave peaks tomorrow, rate of melting is expected to be highest ever recorded. This is ungoodhttps://t.co/5JT3oS42kF
In the chart below from a study by Polovodova et al, we see that 20th century warming is perfectly normal in a long-term historical context. It was no warmer – indeed, is slightly cooler – than either the Roman Warm Period or the Medieval Warming Period.
What we also learn from the papers is that these warming periods were global – not, as alarmists like to claim to support their scaremongering thesis, local:
Greenland just broke the record for the coldest July day ever recorded in the Northern Hemisphere at -33C.
But as Tony Heller notes, what’s even more interesting than the temperature record is the way the climate alarmists have tried to spin it.
In fact they lie. Almost all Greenland’s surface is gaining ice.
In fact, says Heller, Greenland has gained a near record amount of ice this year, and the ice is melting very slowly.
